Want your own hand-drawn letter by the creator of this fantastic painting? You might have time to get one.

Bop on over to yourhandwrittenletters tumblr and check out her offer. The artist will draw you a letter from the alphabet and mail it to you like the letter it is, and all you have to do is fill out her handy-dandy form.

I've admired her artwork before, and this seems like a lovely little project that will brighten people's mail days and encourage more letter-writing along the way. And yes, it's the newest blog linked among my letter blogs now. I'll be following her progress regularly.

Random notes of kindness

I just got wind of this lovely project from The Letter Writers Alliance.

Caveat: I am posting about this before I try it myself, but it sounds pretty cool. Have a look at Random Notes of Kindness. In a nutshell, you create a kind note, mail it to the PO Box of the project coordinator, and she will mail it ahead to someone else. You include your own name and address on a separate piece of paper, and she will mail something to you from another anonymous sender. She requests that you include a 44-cent stamp, if in the USA.

It seems like a very new project, but a lovely one. There is also a Random Notes of Kindness blog. For anyone who is looking to both send and receive more mail, but doesn't know to whom to send, this might be a great place to start.

An official description, from the Random Notes of Kindness blog:

Random Notes of Kindness is a project to collect and distribute hand generated notes of kindness through the use of social media.

The Notes of Kindness will be generated by hand and sent through the mail to a special post office box where I will collect them. The Notes will then be resent randomly on to those who are in the pool of having originally sent notes. The original sender's identity is kept anonymous throughout the whole process.

The Notes become property of "Random Notes of Kindness" and may be published through a blog, book and other media outlets. All senders' and recipients' names and information will always remain confidential and will not shared with any other person or entity.

My response to The Letter Writing Project

I see a lot of cool letter projects in the "letters to strangers" posts on A Passion for Letter Writing, and I have much fun blogging about them here. Last month, there was Sign up to get a free letter, about a new Letter Writing Project. I didn't even have to write this fellow first, I emailed him with my address as directed, and I did indeed get a very sweet letter from him. It took me a couple of weeks, but I did write him back. I do encourage you to check up on the progress of his Letter Writing Project, which I see has gathered a lot of steam. He has a Facebook page for it, but I don't do Facebook so you can get the link from any of his posts I've linked here.

Technical details on the letter above: it one of the Chronicle Books fold and mail lovelies, specifically of the Wallace & Gromit variety. I added a few dots of Stickles glitter glue for some bling. You may or may not be able to see them here at this smaller size, but they'll pop out if you take a peek at the larger size photo. I don't know why I didn't photograph the other side, which actually shows Wallace & Gromit themselves, but I didn't. C'est la vie. Next time.
