Anachronism mail art swap

Anachronism mail art swap

Sometimes it's fun to decorate an envelope with a theme. The Anachronism Mail Art Envelope Swap on Swap-Bot seemed right up my alley, and here you see my creation. It seems a lot of my rubber stamps already fit this theme, and of course I tried to use postage stamps to fit the theme, as well. I colored the typing lady's fingernails with red glitter glue for a bit of bling.

Anachronism mail art swap, back

On the back, a vintage air mail label and some more fun stamps. For reasons I can't even explain, I think this carriage scene looks like a fairy tale.

It's ironic, this Swap-Bot thing. I really, really spent a lot of time on this envelope, which I thought was pretty fantastic, but the recipient did not give me a heart. I don't expect hearts, but I get them for something as silly as a simple postcard. Hmm.

This is why I've decided I'd rather spend time away from Swap-Bot, but it's still a fun diversion. And I get to share the pretty mail with you. :-)

Letters Mingle Souls

Letters Mingle Souls

I tried to achieve some harmony in the stamps on this envelope, both rubber and postage, in that the Letters Mingle Souls theme appears in both. I am particularly fond of the Universal Postal Union/Letters Mingle Souls stamps, and use them sparingly. I love the Metropolitan Opera stamps, too, though I have a few more of those left from my grandfather's collection.

Oh - it's hard to see here, but the smaller blue postage stamp is "first automated post office in the United States" (Providence, RI) - what's an automated post office??

As for the rubber stamps, I see them on envelopes and in photos like this, and I think, "Why don't I use those more often?" Truth be told, sometimes I just forget about them. I'll try to remember more often - I really like the way they can make an envelope so much more decorative, which is great for those of us (like me!) who can't draw but still want to be visually creative.

Scarlet Tanager sticker

On the back I used a large Scarlet Tanager stamp from Cavallini.

Stuff on my cat fold and mail

Stuff on my cat fold and mail

Here's another blog reader letter, featuring one of the Chronicle Books fold and mails that I DON'T HAVE: Stuff on my cat!

You can't tell from the photo (alas, I keep saying and saying that - glittery sparkly things don't photograph well in the hands of amateurs like me), but she used orange glitter gel pen for the address. Lovely. I am particularly fond of this combination of stamps, too - perfect kitty for the stationery, and y'all know I love the Letters Mingle Souls stamps.

Singing along

The back is very cute - cats singing along with a record player... or possibly berating a record player. Who knows.

Pearl says: it's only a paper moon

Jezebel with vintage stamps

I just finished off my last Jezebel card last week, and the very next day, my fresh order with new cards arrived! This one is called "Pearl says: it's only a paper moon."

A special correspondent deserved one of the precious "letters mingle soul" stamps, plus some groovy owls. Yay vintage stamps.

I found a rubber stamp on eBay with the same image, but inverted, so I used that on the back:
