Space-age hip Shag postcard

US-1693193

I mailed this fine Shag (aka Josh Agle) postcard today to a Postcrosser in the USA. I've kvelled about my love of Shag's artwork many times in this blog. This comes from the Shag Postcard book made by Chronicle Books. I love their happy hip dancing. They make it look like jamming out in spacesuits is a lot of fun.

The Elevated Envelope: a mail art exchange project

Blog reader Rosemary recently tipped me off to a new mail blog, The elevated envelope. Not only a blog to show and encourage pretty mail, it also seems to be a mail art exchange project: "a project where creative strangers from all over the world send each other artistic snail mail." It runs "every 6-8 weeks or so" and full details, including sign-ups, are on the elevated envelope blog. I'm not a participant myself, just passing along a tip about the site. If nothing else, it's worth a look for all the great mail photos!

Lovely response from a postal worker

I received the loveliest email in response to my last post, Postcrossing to the #1 USA Postcrosser. The woman who emailed, who shall remain nameless, is one of my blog readers, AND happens to work at the post office where motherbrando sends and receives her mail. Motherbrando was the recipient of the last postcard I blogged about, and the woman who is currently the #1 Postcrosser in the USA.

I was so touched by what this post office blog reader wrote that I asked her permission to share it with you, and she graciously agreed:

What a hoot! Your post caused my on-line life and my off-line life to collide. I work at the post office that she [motherbrando] sends and receives all those wonderful postcards. In fact, she was how I found out about postcrossing. Love the card you are sending her...books are what you might call one of my weaknesses. lol

I wanted to let you know, as an employee of the USPS, how much I appreciate you and your fellow bloggers supporting and encouraging the art of letter writing. By the way, good mail is not only fun to send and to receive it is also fun to deliver! =)
So there you have it, folks, proof that our mail is brightening the days of not only its recipients, but perhaps of many of the fine people who handle our mail along its journey.

Postcrossing to the #1 USA Postcrosser

us-1670757

Yesterday I was assigned to send a postcard to the #1 poscrosser in the USA (at least right now), motherbrando. She has sent nearly 4000 postcards in her 6 years on Postcrossing. (I've also been on Postcrossing for more than 6 years, but I've only sent a little more than 700!) Gulp. She has a very full profile and seems like an interesting person. I chose a books/reading postcard shown above: "Lesebuebchen" (little boy reading) by Martina Hoffmann, from bizarrverlag.com, though I purchased mine in a bookstore somewhere. I hope she enjoys the postcard!
