Fantastic Dutch stamp: Golden Earring

Golden Earring / Moontan stamp from the Netherlands

This stamp just arrived in my mailbox today, riding on a Postcrossing postcard from the Netherlands. I've never seen this stamp before, and I don't even know who Golden Earring/Moontan is, other than that they seem to be a music group. But WOW, what a stamp image! That's quite a headdress the nearly-naked lady is wearing. Are those ostrich feathers on her head?

...just a brief break in my crazy February to marvel at the wonderful world of postage stamps...

Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day!

  4. Golden Earring is a Dutch Rock Band - Radar Love is one of their songs. They have been around since the early 1960's. And still going strong, I might add.

  5. Oh, I meant to add that Moontan was one of their albums.

  6. I did a bit of research. The stamp is the cover art for the album Moontan. The stamp was issued to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band.

  8. I remember golden earring from their song twilight zone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1sf2CzEq0w You had to have heard it from the 80s.

  9. The stamp was the first one in a row about Dutch popartists. It actually features a new thing. With a special pen and app for it you can make it play the song Radar Love! The stamp itself is sold in sheets of ten. 250.000 stamps are made. The lady is a photo model and posed for the Moontan album cover (Dutch release 1973, usa censored release 1974!) Greetings, Casper Roos

  10. Catwrangler - thanks for the link. Twilight Zone didn't ring too many bells, but I've definitely heard Radar Love. Casper Roos, that's so interesting about the stamp and the special pen and app!
