Is it time for a new look?

I have had the same blog design since I started up The Missive Maven nearly three years ago. At the time, it was a blogger template, but it is now so antiquated that a lot of doo-dads don't work with it, or I have to go into the html code to tweak it so that they do.

I am thinking it might be time for a new look. I am not a creature who takes kindly to visual change, so this is a big deal for me. I don't even know what the new look may be yet, but I'm just thinking out loud here. (Is that a weird thing to say on a blog? Probably.) I would keep the features but things would look different.

Any strong opinions either way from readers? Inquiring Missive Mavens want to know.

  2. Go for it :) I've been trying to update a few things on my blog for a while now too, especially the banner, but keep getting distracted! I think it's nice to mix things up every so often! Have fun!

  3. I like the center piece of your banner very much. The fonts are lovely and the wording perfect. The blog colors are a bit grandmotherly, and not in a good grandmotherly way. I don't really see flashy colors, but perhaps wine colors. And play up your fountain pen collection more in the banner! I know it is not part of the blog, but your Blogger avatar (you writing a letter) is one of my very favorite avatars. Make it a button others can put on their blogs maybe? And I'd so love to see the kitties in the banner. I know it is cliché, but kitties and writing and the internet just go together.

My blog needs updating desperately. I want to design an OPP logo but I'm not very artistic. I am seriously thinking of hiring someone. Greg thinks I'm crazy ... I don't make a penny from the blog but I want to spend more money on it? It's an investment, I say!

  4. Thanks so much for your feedback, folks. Someone on twitter asked me not to change a thing, but so far the sentiments are moving towards change... as are mine.

PostMuse, I really appreciate your detailed comments! I laughed when you said your blog needs updating, because you've certainly redesigned yours more recently than I've done mine. :-)

  5. Blogs can get very "busy." This one is clean and easy to read. My journal will turn 12 very soon and has essentially had the same design for 12 years. Every time I think about changing it, I can't figure out how I would do it.

  6. Ohhh They say a change is as good as a rest, so maybe a little brightening up here and there. I too, still love the writing images and themes. Maybe you can find different things in the same lovely theme. Maybe incorporate those magical bats somehow;-) I say good luck & have fun!
We're all looking forward to whatever you choose.

  7. Change is good, remember, that no matter what changes you make, they are going to take some time to get used to. I look forward to seeing the changes!

  8. post muse set it better than I could have. I agree with everything she said. Wine colors would be nice and the kitties somewhere..def. I have thought about adding my kitties to my blog but I would run out of room on the banner, lol.

  10. Well, I like the way your blog looks. However, if having a new layout will encourage you to post more often, go for it!

  11. Alas, Eliza, nothing will make me able to post more often this time of year... November through early March is a crazy busy time for me. I hope to get more posts up at the end of December, though!
