April Benevolent Postcard Society offering

This was my final item sent in the Benevolent Postcard Society project. I sent 8 - one each month, dutifully sent on or very close to - the first of the month, and was supposed to receive one each month, too, but I have only received 3. I suppose April's could still yet come. In May the organizer suspended for a month to re-evaluate membership, and I decided not to continue. I had requested for months that a reminder that the postcard should be marked Benevolent Postcard Society (or BPS) be included with the address info email each month, but that didn't happen. I suppose I could have received more BPS postcards, and would not have known, if they hadn't been designated as such - I get a lot of postcards and all.

Anyhoo, I had fun with this one. I used a vintage cat postcard that a pen pal had sent, and altered it with some glitter, metallic gel pen ink and rubber stamps.



Perhaps you can see the glitter, and the blue metallic gel pen ink making the kitty eyes sparkly blue, a little better in this ultra-bright-sunlight shot.

Gorey glitter fairy envelope

I got some brown paper envelopes to go with my moo.com photo postcards, and I really dig the look. This one got some decorative touches from my Edward Gorey rubber stamps, a Stickles glitter glue dot border, and Glimmer Mist glitter spray. Above is the photo taken without a flash...



... and here's a photo with the flash. I think I prefer without, but that glitter can be mighty persnickety to photograph well.

Incidentally, I realize my blog postings have been very heavy on the received and lacking on the sent, so I'm trying to even that out.

Mail art thank-you

My amazing little package full of mailbox postcards from Carolee of PodPost begged a mail-art-licious thank-you response, so I had fun putting this puppy together, with all the meta-postal goodness I could muster. Only the Shakespeare stamp doesn't really fit the theme, but he's the bard and I love him, so he gets to join the party.



The envelope is vintage 1971, from my grandfather's days in the post office, commemorating the official change of name from "post office" to "U.S. Postal Service," complete with new logo. I love that this envelope shows both the old and the new logos.

I am feeling rather clever for putting my return address in the wavy lines of the "please hand cancel" rubber stamp image.



As is typical, I don't think the glimmer mist spray glitter is really showing up very well in this photo, but I tried to showcase it here.



On the back is a vintage air mail label (I found it on eBay, for anyone who's wondering), whose glue tastes so awful I have to prepare myself to lick it. But that's part of the fun, saying pTOOey and swishing around a tasty beverage as I affix the label... which is cool enough to merit the distaste, in my book.

I feel rather some pressure to make something quite amazing, these times I have sent mail/mail art to the fine authors of the fabulous Good Mail Day book, but it's a fun challenge.

Another attempt to photograph glimmer mist

Here I go again, trying to photograph the subtleties of glimmer mist.

You might have to view large to see the effect. I think it kind of shows up better on the dark areas of the stamps.

Can you see it?? I promise, it's better in person, preferably in direct sunlight.

[EDIT on 7/23: One of my astute readers just pointed out that I've not explained glimmer mist. That link will tell you more, but basically it is a non-aerosol glitter spray made for scrapbooking. It's water-based, acid-free and non-toxic... but it IS a bit messy, so I always spray outside or in the icky basement. It comes in a bunch of colors and is really great fun to use: Learn more about Tatterd Angels Glimmer Mist.]

White envelope with a little bit of bling

This rubber stamp is one of my favorites to spice up an envelope address, especially one that justifies use of the 5 lines. It is especially jazzed up with a few judicious dots of glitter glue.

(Yes, once again I sing the praises of glimmer mist and glitter glue. Sparkly-sparkly!)

To appreciate the bling, best viewed large.

I thought the Bette Davis stamp worked with the glam theme.

A little side note: I've discovered some new glitter glue. Before I just used a large bottle of something I'd found at Michael's, which was rather unwieldy, inexact and clogged all the time. But I've found Stickles Glitter Glue and now I'll toss my other icky stuff. The Stickles is precise, easy to use (you don't have to make your hands sore by squeezing the bottle so darn hard), and clog-resistant.

Glittery Living Dead Dolls letter

Here's a closer look at that black letter from yesterday's post. It's on the Living Dead Dolls stationery I blogged recently, dolled up with glimmer mist, glitter glue, and a fitting Poe stamp.



Poe has a glimmer mist glop on his nose. I am not so subtle with my spraying.

Hallmark Muppet stationery red envelope

Finally wrote a letter with my precious new/old vintage Muppet stationery. The envelopes are just plain red. I used some gold glimmer mist to make this sparkle, and of course I had to use a Muppet stamp.



The stickers on the back of the envelope did not come with this set - they're much newer; I found them in a store last month.

Emily the Strange sendsomething

This puppy went out through Sendsomething.net, to a fellow bat enthusiast. I included a bat stamp from the pollinators series, and bat stickers on the back. You may not be able to tell from the photo above, but it's sprayed with glimmer mist. It was one of the gold colors - antique brass or gold, I think.

Since I insist on posting photos chronologically, we'll have to live with the backlog, since I'm not up to posting anything from THIS weekend yet.

But, I had a very productive letter-writing weekend last weekend, with MLK day and all.

Pig Pig with glimmer mist

It's a little hard to tell from this photo unless you view large, but I sprayed this with pearl glimmer mist to make it a little glittery.

This is some of my only official kawaii stationery, with four designs: bear, cat, frog and pig.
