She read the letter again and again

She read the letter again and again

I was so taken with this postcard when I read about it on GirlZootZilla's post -- imagine my happy surprise when it came in my mailbox and I realized I was the recipient!

The text reads, "She read the letter again and again, oblivious to the fact that she'd missed her stop fifteen minutes ago." I love the quiet mood, and how it illustrates the transcendence that a good letter can bring. The artwork is by Adriane Tomine from Optic Nerve, which at the moment is sadly out of stock.

  1. Oh yes I go into a zone as well when writing a letter . I saw a movie once about letter writing it starred Jenifer Jason Leigh and campbell scott . I believe it was called the letter it was made by hallmark specials . It was an awesome movie and it made you think about writing letters . Yes this is the postcard that makes you think about the solitude . amen . thanks for posting and sharing this wondefull treat .

  3. I am a bit sad when I read the caption. To me, she read the letter again and again because she can't quite believe what she is reading and she looks a little blue. Perhaps my own mood plays into my perception.

  4. I kind of got the same vibe as Post Muse - that it was bad news. Still, the sentiment is what I love about letters. Getting to hold them and re-read them. Wonderful . . .

  5. That's so interesting... I just interpreted the woman as tired, and maybe run-down, but I didn't get the sad vibe. Maybe that's because I've got one of those faces that everyone thinks is sad when it's at rest, but really I'm not, it's just how my face sits. (Runs in the family. Something about the mouth.)

  6. I saw the Movie with Jennifer Jason Leigh and Campbell Scot as well. What made that movie intriguing is that the letters they wrote to each other were able to cross time. Scot lived in modern times and she lived in the time of the Civil war. Another movie that involved letters was The Lake House With Sandra Bullock and Keeneu(sp?) Reeves. In the Lake House they about to write to each other though they were a year a part, Reeves in the past and Bullock in the future, through a letter box at the lake house which Reeves Characters father designed.
